The Stăncuţa commune is located in the south-east of Brăila county, in the Danube valley, at a distance of 45 km from city of Brăila.

The commune consists of four villages: Stăncuţa, Cuza-Voda, Stanca and Polizeşti. Its location in the meadow has an impact on climate, soil, horizon aquifer depth, all influencing the structure of agricultural crops.

Certified as territorial administrative unit since 1820, enjoying of a pitoresque area, characteristical to the Danube valley, the town has known in the past and continue to benefit in the present of a sustainable development. Formerly recognized as a small settlement, with people dedicated to fishing, cattle breeding and agriculture, Stăncuţa has become today a strong agro-industrial center.

The territory of Stăncuţa commune is influenced by Danube River levels, its natural system is crossed by numerous ravines, linked naturally by the river. Great part of the commune (about 160 km2) is located in an embanked area, placed on the left side of the Danube River. Here the soils are alluvial, being deposited important reserves of salts. To improve saline soils has been established the rice culture method. Here is the largest rice plantation in Romania, with an area of 7000 ha, "Polizeşti" variety grown here is recognized in the Official Catalogue of varieties of crop plants in Romania and the European Community Catalogue. Also in Stăncuţa is the Pedoorizicol Experimental Center of Polizeşti since 1958.

In addition to rice cultivation, other activities which are carried out in the area are grain cultivation, livestock breeding, fishery, forestry, tourism and oil extraction.

The most important sights are the Danube River and the Natural Park "Small Marsh of Braila" which offers the possibility of practicing tourism and ecological tourism.

Natural Park "Small Marsh of Brăila" is a wetland of international importance and was declared Ramsar site in June 2001.

Hunting can be practiced in this area, there are several species of animals to hunt such as boar, deer, rabbit, fox, wild cat, and some species of birds: wild duck, wild goose, snipe, coot, etc.

One of the most impressive buildings in the Stăncuţa village, which represents a real tourist attraction, is the water tower. This construction, made ​​several years ago, has a height of 25 meters and 6 levels, each with a certain utility including the accommodation for tourists who come in Small Marsh of Brăila.

In this territory there are many traditional festivals, among the most important being the feast of Epiphany on January 6 organized on the Danube side, and consists of throwing a cross into the Danube water and reward those who find it. Remembrance Day is also celebrated on May 28, cultural and religious event held in the memory of fallen heroes on the battlefield to defend the country, and celebration of Polizeşti, Stăncuţa, Cuza-Vodă and Stanca, on 21 November and 6 December.
