Medgidia municipality is located in the Southern Dobrogea Agricultural Basin and consequently in the center of Constanţa County, a basin which sums up tens of thousands of hectares of highly fertile agricultural land. Composing localities are Remus Opreanu and Valea Dacilor. Before 1850 the area was a known as a grain market. During this period, the settlements benefited from the attention of the Sultan Abdul Medgid, from which the city took the name. The Sultan endowed it with a few large buildings such as the Grand Mosque and the Turkish Bath. The settlement`s positioning halfway between the Danube and the Black Sea favored Medgidia in regard to the transition tourism. The distance to the Black Sea is only 39 km and 25 km to the Danube.

During the summer, the municipality can become a major landmark for those traveling to the sea, offering a few sights of great value, not quite valorized in the current management. The historical formation of the city is interesting enough to arouse the curiosity of any visitor. Populating the old Caras Valley during the reign of the Sultan Abdul Medgid was the beginning of settlement development, around the eighteenth century.

It has seen a population explosion, reaching 20,000 people in a very short time. In 1926, Medgidia commemorated the heroism of the Serbian Division who fought in World War I, in Dobrogea, and was inaugurated a monument to commemorate this historical sequence. The municipality and the entire surrounding area are crossed by the Danube river-Black Sea waterway and by the Bucharest-Constanţa railway, Bucharest-Tulcea and Constanţa- Negru Vodă ones. A sensational discovery of the first Neolithic specialized mills in Medgidia proves the role of agriculture 5,000 years ago, but also dating back this job, the milling one, long before other areas. Specific activities of the area are agriculture, mining, trade, cement production, lime and building materials and construction of agricultural machinery and castings.

Tourist attractions include the Art Museum "Lucian Grigorescu", "Abdul Medgid" Mosque, "St. Peter and Paul" Orthodox Church, Iftimie Ilisia Sports Complex, Exhibition of Ceramics, the Danube-Black Sea Cliff, the Hero’s Monument. The Mausoleum dedicated to the Serb, Croats and Slovenes heroes was built in the form of a pyramid, in 1926, by the Yugoslav state, to house the remains of 224 Serbs, Croats and Slovenes soldiers who died in World War I, in Dobrogea. On the front of the pyramid-ossuary is set former Yugoslav state emblem, below which is placed an inscription in Serbian. Below is a marble plaque which is affixed a bronze laurel wreath. The monument is reached by a concrete scale and its enclosure is made with pillars of stone, bound with chains. Local events include the celebration of the city, "Panair Medgidia"; the Pop Music Festival; "Let’s play together", the International Children's Festival in June; "Dan Spătaru" Festival; "Lucian Grigorescu" painting camp. The main advantage of the city is access to the Danube-Black Sea, which is the nucleus of the future free zones, which also involves increasing the number of accommodation units.
