Gorni Tsibar

It was originated as a Roman fortress “Kamistra” on the Moesian route: Augusta (Harlets), Regiana (Kozloduy), Cebrus (Tsibar), Pomodiana (Stanevo), Almus (Lom), etc. Its importance increased with the division of the province Moesia into two protectorates (Moesia Superior and Moesia Inferior) and the border between them was the Tsibritsa river. In the 2^nd century the fortress was destroyed by the Barbarians and restored by Justinian.

The Roman stone road “Via Danubia” goes down to the mouth of Tsibritsa river into Danube and was actively used before the Liberation.

The area around the village, with its numerous springs, natural lakes, acacia forest and a panoramic view from the road above the village, makes an unforgettable impression.

Тhe eastern boundary of the village is the “Asparuhov val”, an old Bulgarian protective earth fortification, which was part of the defense system of the medieval border areas.

The village is a traditional producer of cereals. The terraces around the village are very suitable for vineyards and orchards. This is a traditional wine region. The place is very good for beekeeping: rich pasture, water sources and constant gentle breeze.

The adjacent beach is a favorite place for summer recreation and fishing among the quiet places and wild nature, especially on the islands of the Danube: the protected sites of “Island of Gorni Tsibar” (218.43 ha), “Island Ibisha” (399.32 ha), “Island Tsibar” (101.48 ha). The area is included in "Natura 2000" because of its ornithological wealth. The fauna is rich and suitable for hunting: deer, wild boars, rabbits, foxes, geese, etc.

The Festival of Gorni Tsibar takes place regularly on 2^nd August.
