The commune of Văcăreni is located in the depression of the same name, in the north-western side of Tulcea County, on the right bank of the Danube River. The commune of Văcăreni comprises only one village, namely the commune seat village.

The commune of Văcăreni is crossed by the national road DN22 (E87); it is located in the north-western side of Tulcea County, 16 km away from Galati City and 12 km away from Măcin.

An important monetary thesaurus was dugged out in Văcăreni, which is believed to have been buried in 1396, after battle of Nicopolis. The thesaurus comprises coins from the time of Mircea the Old and Vlad I (rulers of Wallachia) as well as Turkish coins.

Best attractions for potential investors are the areas that favour the construction of wind parks.

The main tourist attraction in the commune of Văcăreni is the proximity of Măcin Mountains – National Park of Măcin Mountains, Beech Tree Valley Scientific Reserve – which is included in the Ecology network – NATURA 2000, Măcinu Mountains. Beech Tree Valley Reserve (154 ha) represents an exception as well as a scientific curiosity due to the presence of the species of Fagus Orientalis, as the development conditions of those trees are not specific to North Dobrogea area, where the climate is hot and dry. 6 tourist routes, a thematic route, a route for equestrian tourism and bicycle touring routes have been established in the National Park of Măcin Mountains, as approved by Tulcea County Council and the Romanian Academy: „Ţuţuiatu” route, the route of „Greci-Dealul cu drum-Nifon”, "Vârful Crapcea" route, "Culmea Pricopanului" route, „Cozluk-Valea Plopilor” route, „Valea Vinului-Cerna” route.

In terms of religious tourist attractions, the commune has Cetatea Dinogetia, located 4 km away from Gârvan village, in Jijila commune. Dinogetia, a Roman and Byzantine fortress, is located on a small isle (hillock) and it is not accidentally that the locals call it the „Small Church”. The settlement was favoured by a natural dominant position and had the advantage of a natural defense system as it was surrounded by water (the brooks and moors the Danube River forms at the right of the large bend in front of Galati City.  From the 6th century fortress, the enclosing wall (3 m thick wall, guarded by 14 towers) is still intact. The precincts also include the ruins of a basilica (the oldest amd most important in our country), roads, farm and household tools. After 1990 the frotress was subject to restauration works and now Cetatea Dinogetia is an important tourist attraction.

Among major local events we can mention Văcăreni Commune Day, which takes place on Octobre.
