Traian is one of the southern communes of the county Teleorman, situated in the Danube Meadow and in the South part of Campia Romana, in the Boianului Field. It is boarded in the north by the commune Crangu, in the north-east and to the east by the commune Seaca, in the south by the Danube, and in the west and north-west by the commune Ciuperceni and by the town Turnu Magurele.

The settlement was attested in 1879, when 250 families of peasants were given land.
