Simian is a commune under the administration of the town Drobeta Turnu Severin, part of the Natural area Portile de Fier – Defileul Dunarii.

Main touristic objectives:

  • Necropolis from the Hallstatt culture in Cerneti, 8th – 7th Cent. BC
  • Ruins of roman walls in Cerneti, on the left bank of the river Topolnita (1st-3rd Cent. AD)
  • The archaeological site in Simian, called „Ostrovul Simian”
  • Ada-Kaleh architectonic complex, which includes the Bastonian fortress (18th Century)
  • The old cementery in the center of the village Cerneti
  • The turkish cementery on the island Simian (18th Century)
  • The tower of Tudor Vladimirescu, in the village Cerneti, built between 1802 and 1806. The tower is almost square, and has two floors. Nowadays it is as a memorial museum, but nowadays it cannot be visited by tourists.

  • “Paparuda” – in June – a sort of local pilgrimage to a fountain
  • “Cercovii/Circovii” (16th – 18th July and 22th – 24th July) – prohibition to physical work, more or less related to Saint Ilie (20 July)
