Prundu is a commune located in Giurgiu County, composed of two villages, situated on Bumas Depression. It is boarded by the Danube in the South, and it is crossed by the rivers Arges, Neajlov and Gavanu. The commune is placed at the crossing between the forest steppe and the meadow, and it represents the youngest geomorphologic relief unit, composed of meadows, islands, ponds and channels.

In the village Puieni, on the hummock Gorgona, a Neolithic settlement was discovered, that belonged to the Gumelnita Culture (4th-3rd Millenium BC), and where silex, rock, and bone tools were discovered, as well as ceramic pots painted with spiral motifs and anthropomorphic and zoomorphic figures(statues of women dressed in bell-shaped dresses).

The main activity of the inhabitants is agriculture. There is also a bulrush plashing workshop in the village.

In the village Puieni there is a church built in 1859 whose titular saint is Sfantul Dumitru.
