Located in the southwest of the country - where the Danube, escapes from Strânsoarea Cazanelor, is preparing to attack the last barrier, the Iron Gates one, Orsova - besides the charming places and the living ways - is an important gate for entering this part of the world.

The existence of the old city was ended by the construction of Iron Gates I dam, being moved between 1966 and 1974, with 3 km to the north, including a part of the former Jupalnic village, with 15 m above, which means from 56 m to 71 m absolute altitude.

The new Orsova town is situated in amphitheatre style on the western bank of the Cerna bay, between 70 and 200m absolute altitude, on the peaks of the Turlui, Ijnic and Cerna valleys The former terraces can not be recognized on the ground due to excavation, levelling and construction that were made in the hearth of the city.

Orsova holds a key position for tourism in the area, because of its displacement at approximately equal distances to many attractions: Cazanele Dunarii (Danube Gorges), Baile Herculane and Cerna valley, the Drobeta Turnu Severin municipality, the Iron Gates Natural Park.

A significant element for the promotion of the Orsova city is that the administrative territory is integrated in the Iron Gates Natural Park, the largest natural park in Romania, with the largest ecological diversity, which gives it the status of an outdoor geological museum.

Tourism has wider opportunities for development in many combinations of routes and options, depending on the nature of the objectives, preferences and available time.

Orsova is also favoured by following a very spectacular path in the Danube narrow pass or only till Cazane (Danube Gorges), continuing with the asphalting and building of a tourist promenade on the shores of the Cerna Gulf (from  the Dragalina Park area to Casa Olandeza ( the Dutch house).

Natural conditions and geographical position favours the development in Orsova of the following forms of tourism: water sports, leisure, recreation, transit (river cruises and auto), sport fishing and hunting. Danube offers boats rides and the practice of some sports, the most important being kayak-canoe and rowing, boat rides, hydro-bike rides, fishing, atv rides and tennis courts.

A port located on the Danube river at km 955, it can provide regular passenger and cargo transport. The port has a modern passenger terminal, with a river terminal in conformity with European standards. Passengers have a medical area, commercial area (bars, shops, duty-free) cash, money exchange, boarding control area.

Border crossing - Orsova port is opened for international traffic, crossing the Romanian-Serbian border internationally.
