Orlea

Orlea is a commune situated on the Danube, on the National Road Corabia-Bechet.
The excavations made ​​by the staff of the Museum Orlea, and overflows from the pond, have revealed various objects such as statues, vases with various inscriptions, strainers, graves, coins, Scythian arrows, brooches of various shapes, bricks with inscriptions made by famous brick-makers, and pottery.
During the Bronze Age, the local tribes have settled in these lands, their main occupation being farming. The coastal terraced land on the border of the lake was favorable for the defense against other tribes.

Under the lordship of Mihai Voievod (1593-1601), during the military campaign of Sinan Pasa (1595), Orlea was destroyed by the Turkish, and the inhabitants had to flee, some towards the mountains, others over the Danube.

Orlea Noua was reconstructed in 1880, during the agrarian reform of the newlyweds.

The main occupation of the inhabitants is fishing, agriculture and animal raising.

Main touristic objectives:

• Archeology: vestiges of a roman settlement from the 2-3 Cent. AD, remains of a roman bridge across the Danube, a treasure consisting of 270-300 silver Roman coins f which are now exhibited in the museum in the town Corabia. Another object that was discovered at the point Magura - Rusănescu is a Roman medallion dating from the period following the Roman colonization, 2^nd Century AD. These facts show that both Gura Padinii and Orlea are placed above a rich Roman settlement.
