Nufaru

Concerning the geographical location, the Commune Nufaru is situated on the North-Eastern part of Tulcea County, in close proximity of the Danube Delta, the Northern commune  side being located on the Sfantul Gheorghe Branch of Danube. The commune component villages are Nufaru as commune seat, Malcoci, Ilganii de Jos and Victoria.

Excepting the village of Ilganii de Jos, located on the left side of the Danube branch the other villages are crossed by the county road DJ 222C, connecting the commune to the municipality of Tulcea (city seat of the county) – Malcoci 4 km, Nufaru 12 km, Victoria 17 km. The fluvial traffic is well enough solved on Sfantul Gheorghe branch. The commune villages have no access to the rail way.

The historical name of Nufaru village is Prislava; within the entire village central area and its surroundings vestiges of a flourishing X Century civilization can be observed: the Prislava Fortress. The most ancient traces demonstrate that the settlement does exists since before the year 1000 after Christ. The archeological researches revealed the existence of an important urban center during the X-XIV centuries. At the beginning of XX Century the existence of some important precincts walls and a rich archeological material, as traces of the Iron Age followed by vestiges of the Roman and Roman-Byzantian Age, were signaled.

The economic profile of the commune territory is mixed (agriculture, piscicultural resources exploitation, agro tourism, etc.) developing a poor level of technical endowment and urbanization. Nufaru Commune does not yet meet foreign investors excepting in the tourist endowment and a stone quarry, within the commune acting only small and very small size companies.

Nufaru town is not well known for a certain type of human or material resource; nevertheless there is a reason the tourists are attracted by Nufaru: it is considered as an entrance gate into the Danube Delta, on the water and land, a ferryboat passing point. The other resources that could be exploited here are: the huge archeological heritage yet not fully exploited and the dreaming view, the exceptional fauna, the fish and an immense silence. All these recommend the village as a perfect holyday destination. Trips within the Delta area can be made either in organized groups or individually. The halting place and orientation tourism is developed so that the commune becomes for tourists a more attractive destination.

Holiday and boarding houses offer special accommodation condition of 3, 2 and 1 daisies and also information organizing standard or personalized routes within Danube Delta area by different kinds of boats. The fishermen and tourists intending to penetrate the hardly accessible channels network of Danube Delta for reaching the middle of wildness may benefit of two floating pontoons services.

The traditional culture of the Nufaru Commune, typical for the Dobrudjea villages represents the meeting point of many civilizations of Romanians, Lipovans, Bassarabians,  Germans, Moldavians, Bulgarians, etc. and also the presence of many ethnic cultures.
