The commune Macesu de Jos is situated in the Danube meadow, in the south border of the country, on the bank of the Danube. It was attested in 1061, and, throughout history, it was a place that all the neighbour invaders passed by: Bulgarians, Turks and Serbians.

The main occupation of the inhabitants is agriculture, mainly the cultivation of cereals and technical plants, grape growing, and fruit gardening.

Main touristic objectives:

  • The church “Sfantul Nicolae”
  • Manor House that belonged to the family of lords Brancoveanu – nowadays the Hospital Macesu de Jos.
