Lipnita

The Commune Lipnita is situated in the South-Western side of the Constanta County on the Oltina Tableland, neighboring the Danube River in West and Bulgaria in East. Lipnita Commune encompasses seven villages, namely: Lipnita, as seat of the Commune, Coslugea, Canlia, Izvoarele, Goruni, Carvan, and Cuiugiuc. Lipnita Commune is located in a hill area, having a plateau relief specific to the Danubian Dobrudjea platform.

The Commune is crossed by the National Road DN3, being located 40 km far from Calarasi Municipality, 104 km far from Constanta Municipality and 30 km far from the Bulgarian town of Silistra. The connection to Calarasi is made by crossing the Danube by ferryboat at the passing points of Ostrov-Regie and Chiciu-Calarasi.

Izvoarele village is identified with the ruins of the Sucidava Fortress, important political and military center built by the tribe of Suc population. Into the Fortress have been also discovered the remains of a pagan basilica dated since the V-VI centuries after Christ, but the most important archeological discovery is a liturgical kit including 17 silver pieces excavated near the fortress.

Lipnita Commune has a huge tourist potential due to the diversified relief, the forestry fond and ponds present in the area, also due to its location on the Danube bank.

Important Tourist Objectives: The Monastery of Dervent and the ruins of Dervent Fortress, The Monastery Saint John The Baptist, The Fortress Pacuiul lui Soare, The Monastery of Saint Apostle Andrew (25 km).

On the Lipnita Commune several territory Natura 200 sites can be found: “The Forest and Valley Canaraua Fetei - Iortmac”(SCI), “The Danube Channels” (SCI,) ”Danube Ostroave”(SPA), “The Oltina Lake”(SPA), ”Baneasa - Canaraua Fetei”(SPA) and “The Forest  Canaraua Fetei”, a Nature Reservation.

The nature tourist potential represents a rich local resource and offers the opportunity of developing an activity sector with beneficial results for the local economy.

The most important of the local events are “The day of the Commune Lipnita” and the Day of the Saint Patron of the Church in Lipnita.
