Gruia

Gruia is a commune situated in the South-West part of Mehedinti county, near the pond Gruia and the Danube, which includes the villages Gruia, Izvoarele şi Poiana Gruii. The village is known to exist before the year 1667. In the past, there was a military camp, a port, and a glass factory in the village.

Main touristic objectives:

• The archaeological site „La Cariera”, situated on the Danube bank, near the port. 
• Settlement „La Cariera” 2nd-1st cent. BC, Latène, Geto-Dacian culture, on the Danube bank, near the port. 
• Settlement “La Cariera”, 6^th cent. BC, late HallstattThe wooden church “Adormirea Maicii Domnului” and its wall.
