Gostinu is a commune situated in the South part of Giurgiu County, in the Danube Meadow, at a distance of 18 km from Giurgiu and 25 km of the bulgarian town Ruse. It administrates only one village, which bears the same name, and has a surface of 80 sqkm and 2500 inhabitants.

The documents attest that the village is as ancient as Bucharest city. In the year 1850, the inhabitants of the village wrote a letter to the lord Dimitrie Ghica, in which they refer to Gostinu as a 350 years old village of tidewaiters.

The main activities of the inhabitants are agriculture, industrial fishing, animal raising, bee keeping, bulrush plashing and trade.
