Garla Mare is a commune which includes the villages Garla Mare and Vrata. It is also a well known archaeological site. It is in this village where the material culture in the Middle Bronze Age was discovered, present in South Oltenia, Banat and Northern Yugoslavia. At a distance of 1,5 km from the village there is a small trade port.

Main touristic objectives:

  • The Protected Natural Area Gruia – Gârla with a surface of ​​2756 ha, extends on the administrative territories of the four communes (Gruia, Pristol, Gârla Mare, Vatra). The Area is important for impressive species and number of birds;

Events: Weekly market – on Wednesday and Saturday.
