The Frecatei commune is located in the east of the Great Island of Braila and is bordered to the north and east with Tulcea County through Macin arm (Old Danube), to south with Constanta County and west with the Măraşu commune. The Accessibility of the commune is ensured by 212A and 212B county roads crossing the village.

Local Council of the commune has the following villages under its authority: Frecatei Sat, Titcov, Agaua, Stoieneşti, Cistia and Salcia.

The Frecatei commune of the present was established in 1968 by the territorial-administrative reorganization law in Romania, but its component villages Stoieneşti and Cistia are documentary attested after 1880, and Titcov village was passed in the land register in 1935.

The main economic activities in the area are agriculture and livestock.

In the commune area, the objectives of tourist interest are related to leisure activities, fishing, hunting, the Danube river being nearby, Lake Blasova with Popasul Blasova, and Lake Zaton, rich in fish resources.

The area is favored in terms of tourism, and by the proximity of the Natural Park of Braila Small Marsh.
