The commune Desa is situated in the south-east of the county Dolj, at a distance of 20 km from Calafat, 40 km from Bailesti and 100 km from Craiova.

The local economy is mainly based on agriculture, especially on zooculture (sheep, goats and cows). Another occupation of the locals is the cultivation of wheat, sunflower and corn. The commune has a lake, Lata, which is also a natural reservation.

Main touristic objectives:

  •  The church “Sf. Nicolae” (rebuilt in 1906)
  • The archaeological site Desa – starting with the year 2001, various diggings where done at 8 km S-W from Desa, close to the bank of the Danube, in the archaeological sites “Castravita” and “La Ruptura”, that revealed a castrum, circled by a 10 meters wide and 1,5 m deep  defence wall, and a roman settlement from the 2nd – 3rd century AD, and a necropolis.
