Crisan Commune is located in the Eastern side of Tulcea County, Dobrogea historical region, in the Danube Delta, and encompasses three villages: Crisan – the residence of the commune, Caraorman and Mila 23. Crisan town covering both sides of Sulina Branch is the most important town between Tulcea and Sulina. Located in the central area of the Danube Delta, the commune is a real departure point towards different towns from all over the Delta, only by water: towards North to Chilia Veche, Matita Pound, Mila 23   (5.5 miles), towards South to Caraorman village (6 miles) and Sfantul Gheorghe Branch towards West to Tulcea (26 miles – 50 km), and towards East to Sulina (14,5 miles).   The access to Crisan town is made by classical passenger ships (three hours sailing) or by the speed ships (one hour sailing) on Sulina Branch.

Main inhabitants activities are the pisciculture, and zootechnical activities developed mainly in private households and by little family associations. Tourism is also well represented, many boarding houses being in Crisan established.

The commune is the starting point towards several touristic interest points on the Danube Delta Bioshere Reservation channels and lakes. In North of Dunărea Veche tourists can go to the fishing villages Mila 23 towards Canalul Olguţa, Gârla Şontea, Canalul Mila 35 in East, and South Litcov Channel, Iacob Lake, the Lakes of Obretinul Mare and Obretinul Mic or towars North-East to Eracle Channel, Trei Iezere Lake, Bogdaproste Lake,  Lecleanca Lake.

In the South-Easthern side an astonishig route goes toward Letea Forest. In South towards Caraorman village and further toward the Rosu – Puiu lacustrine complex, one of the traditional  pelicans refuge, and further toward South to Sf. Gheorghe or Sulina.

There are also in the commune several touristic interest points: the memorial monument built in memory of Sulina Channel inauguration; Caraorman Forest – nature reservation; relic oak forest developed on the Caraorman Sand Bank;  ethnographical center (in Mila 23) – popular architecture, popular art, traditional structure of the fishing  type villages, traditional popular costume (lipovean); Rosu Lake; Lumina Lake.

In the touristic villages many touristic activities as: sportive fishing, nautical sports, sportive hunting, traditional gastronomy, can be carried on.

There are many offers for boarding houses, villas, touristic complexes, a floating hotel, with 4, 3, 2 stars and daisies.

Inhabitants customs and traditions refers to the most important moments of people life and traditions, no matter they are Lipoveni, Romanian or Ukrainians.
