Geographic location: The Ciobanu Commune is situated in the North-Western side of Constanta County, on the plateau of the levantine coast platform, on the bank of the Baroi watercourse. From the county seat, the commune is located at a distance of 90 km and at 4 km from Harsova city.
The Ciobanu Commune encompasses the villages Ciobanu – seat of the commune, and Miorita.
Tourist Objectives: On the Ciobanu Commune territory the following tourist objectives have been identified and located:
- The “Cius” Roman Fortress part of the “Danube limes” defense system built by the Emperor Trajan. As a result of the existent archeological documents, a settlement is attested in the area continuously till in the feudal times. The fortress has been attacked and destroyed by many Gothic attacks.
- The first information concerning the existence of a place of worship is dated in 1836. The actual church having as patron Saint Ioan the Theologian has been built in the middle of the village as result of a steering committee initiative, and financed by the villagers and using their material help, during 1880-1896.
- The sportive fishing parties on the Danube and Ghiolul Hasarlac (Hasarlac Lake).
- The Hasarlac Lake, on the Harsova-Tulcea Road.
