The Chişcani commune is located in the Danube valley, at 13 km south of the city of Braila, on county road 212, stretching about 3 km on both sides of the road. The commune components are three villages: Chiscani, Lacu Sărat and Vărsătura. Inhabiting authenticity of this area since ancient times is given by the objects discovered, bearing the imprint of Dacian origin. The village is mentioned, even before the sixteenth century, when Turks occupied Braila, then in 1788, as was mentioned in a report by the Austrian lieutenant Frantz Mihainaviss.
Over the time, due to frequent floods, villages on the Danube were gradually diminished, and the locals has started to build their houses along the road Braila - Calarasi. the activities of the commune inhabitants have always been agriculture and cattle breeding. Since the land here was favourable to raise vegetables, the gardening has grown since World War I, and nowadays a small part of residents make a way of living by this.
Commune location near the Danube led to the development of fisheries and the harvesting of reeds and rushes.
After 1989, the population of the Chiscani commune has maintained the same occupations in different fields: industry, agriculture, trade and fisheries. In the present, the economic situation of the commune is thriving, large investors have been attracted like a magnet, and they founded the largest Retail Park in the area. Investors like Carrefour, Bricostore, are present in the Promenade Mall shopping center
All villages of the commune are crossed by paved road, which allowed the expansion of public transportation from the city of Braila in the community. In the Chiscani commune area, the forest covers 2.332 ha, plus 478 ha in the area of the Lacu Sarat resort which is a nature reserve.
The resort Lacu Sarat is the most important attraction of the area being known since 1850 with superior qualities of water and sludge. Here there is a complex which operates all year round and offers accommodation, food, football, tennis.
In the area there are beautiful traditions with folkloric significance for Christmas and Easter holidays.
Being located near the county town, the commune prospered greatly, and the future certainly will be part of Braila-Galati metropolitan area, together with the communes Vădeni and Căzaşu.
