Geographical Location: Cerna Commune is located within the Western area of Tulcea County, encompassing four villages: Cerna, Traian, Mircea Voda and General Praporgescu.

The archaeological discoveries made on the administrative territory of the Cerna Commune certify traces of the Dacian-Roman and feudal civilization, while the commune name is mentioned by an Austrian map since 1790 as “Czerna”. In spite that the locality has several times been destroyed by different historical events, and the village precincts have been moved towards the forest or “ceair”, the name of “cerna” has been maintained.

Main Economical Activities: Stone Quarry Exploitation, Fishing, Trade.

Tourist Objectives: One of the main tourist objectives in this area is the Memorial House of the Romanian Poet Panait Cerna. Situated in the center of Cerna Locality, the Memorial reveals an exhibition including biographic data, remakes following some photos, manuscript documents, some of the Poet published works, poetical art critical references and an ethnography micro-exhibition.   

The Macinului Mountains, another attraction item, is in its Western and South-Eastern part conjoint to the administrative territory of Cerna Commune.

The Macin Mountains Protected Area is located within one of the most remarkable nature regions in Europe, and may be considered as a key component part of the Romania and even global nature heritage. The biodiversity richness, size and location give to the area the opportunity to became one of the most important protected area in the region.

The issues expressing the tourist potential of the Macin Mountains may constitute core factors for the tourism development within this wonderful area of Romania.

Local events: November – The Commune Festive Days; Saint Mihail and Gavril – Days of the Patrons of the Church.

Investments Projects: the Green Spaces Development; the Sewerage; Roads Modernization and Rehabilitation; Investments concerning the exploitation and valorization of the granite and silicon reserves may be accomplished; Investments in the Aeolian Energy Industry Development may be performed.
