Ceatalchioi is a commune in the north of the Tulcea County, in the Dobrudja Region, located on the right side of the Chilia Branch of the Danube. The four constituent villages of the Commune are Ceatalchioi Village – seat of the Commune, and the Pătlăgeanca, Plauru and Pălceni Villages.

The Commune can be reached travelling by boat and road, the distance between the Ceatalchioi Commune and the Tulcea Municipality is 10.4 km. The road infrastructure is poor and that is why tourists hesitate to visit the area.

Although, since immemorial times, fishing was the main activity of the inhabitants, at present the fish resources are in decline and the main occupation of the inhabitants has become agriculture, as the commune has important agricultural land on the natural levees.

The territory of the Commune is 100% included in the Biosphere Nature Reserve of the Danube Delta. As tourist attractions mention can be made of the Sireasa Area situated at the interior of the meanders made by the Danube on the Chilia Branch in the area of the Sălceni, Ceatalchioi, Plauru Villages and the Covaliova Plateau; a series of swamps, wetlands, river waters and reed. The commune can be reached travelling by car and crossing the river by ferry-boat at the Tulcea-Tudor Vladimirescu crossing point. Trips can be organized on the tourist routes to admire the wonderful landscape.

The offer of tourist accommodation and services is under development and that is why tourism must be promoted more boldly in the area.
