Ostrov (Island) is a village in Oriahovo municipality, Vratsa District. It is situated on the Danube bank, 19 km east of municipality centre Oriahovo and the distance to Sofia is 128 km.

From 1900 to 800 BC there was a Thracian settlement. In the 1st century the Romans built many roads and fortresses. They called the fortress near village of  Ostrov Pedonione or Pedolanis. During the reign of Khan Tervel (701-718), an Old Bulgarian “val” (“trench”) was constructed as west boundary of the Bulgarian state. It has a width of 6 m and a depth of about 4 m. It starts from the Danube in the village of Ostrov and ends 60 kilometers inside the country. After moving the boundaries to the west, at the time of Thracians, the settlers moved to the Danube island. An old Proto-Bulgarian inscription was found which shows that Ostrov was a "city" (fortress) and had the present name. During Ottoman rule, after the suppression of uprisings, local people have moved to Romanian village of Dabulene, lived there 80 years and then came back to Ostrov.

The village could develop cultural, cognitive and rural tourism, eco-agriculture, sports etc.
