Aydemir is a village in northeastern Bulgaria, part of Silistra Municipality and District. It is located 3 km south of the Danube and 5 km west of Silistra, on the road Silistra - Ruse. This is the most populous village (6830 inh.) in Bulgaria.

Тhe name of the village is probably derived  from Greek άγιος (agios, "Saint") and the shortening of the personal name Demetrius, i.e. "Saint Demetrius".

For the first time the settlement was mentioned in documents of the Ottoman Empire from 1620. But, in 1924, a treasure of 101 silver coins, dated from the 14th century, was discovered near the village.

The economy is well developed: in the outskirts of Aydemir there are many different businesses grouped in an industrial zone; the construction of a new ferryboat port is finished; а mini-refinery is under construction, etc.

The village has two churches (the oldest one is of 1829), large school, stadium etc.
