Szigethalom

Szigethalom is situated in the northern part of Csepel-island, at a 12 km distance from Budapest. The settlement belonging to the agglomeration of the capital is an important traffic junction. The city is the centre of the point-to-point bus traffic, thus we can easily approach Csepel and also the settlements on the left bank of the Danube of Ráckeve (Ráckevei Duna) with the bus lines starting from here. The suburban train (HÉV) of Ráckeve has two stations in the settlement.

In its Danube bank embosomed with trees a resort area with avenue and stages waits for the visitors. Similarly to the surrounding settlements excellent fishing places can be found also here. The paths and cycle tracks of the city’s popular park forest are outstanding hiking routes. The floating marsh of the region is a nature reserve that is famous of its white water lily. Hikers are expected by restaurants and confectionaries.

The living museum village is the unique touristic spectacle of the city. In the Emese Várispánság (Emese Zhupa) we can have an insight to the routines of a settlement of St. Stephan’s age, besides we can get acquainted with the objective and cultural heritage of the Hungarian people and Europe of that age. In the outdoor village museum people living there almost during the whole year do their daily activities in period dresses, with authentic tools. They present the handicraft, stock-farming, plant-growing, fishery and fight of arms in the Middle Ages. The museum village has plank tower, knights’ hall and a lake, on which also paddling is possible. In its area such events are organized like the National Archery Festival or the Viking Festival.
