Szeremle is a village bordered on Baja in Bács-Kiskun county, beneath the Dead Channel of the Danube, called Danube of Szeremle or Sugovica. The settlement can be approached on route 51 and 55 turning to Baja, or from Dunaszekcső by ferry, from where the village is already at a distance of 10 km only. Szeremle is located near to the Hungarian-Croatian border; the frontier station at Hercegszántó is 35 km far.
The village fascinates the visitor by its calm, quiet and natural atmosphere, in its interior more ponds can be found. In the near Sugovica and Ferencz-channel bathing, kayaking and canoeing is possible. Anglers frequent the Máriakönnyei-lake and the Kónya-lake in the neighbourhood. Visitors, who would like to move or to admire wild animals, should wander in the picturesque nature reserve of the near-by Gemenci-forest by walking, by bike or on water.
The village is famous of its folk costumes that are related to the settlement Sárköz situated at the other bank of the Danube. The most important event of Szeremle is the Flat-boating, Wedding and Peppery Milk-bread Festival at Whitsun (Pünkösdi Ladikázás, Lakodalom és Borsoskalács Fesztivál). The two-day event authentically presents the local folk folkways, the colourful folk costumes and the weaving and spinning art. The famous folk-dance ensemble of the village founded in 1929 performs also at the Festival. Upon that occasion the peppery milk-bread is very popular, as well. The women of the village prepare this local speciality traditionally at family and religious events only.
