Sükösd is situated at a distance of 5 km from the Danube, alongside the Danube main channel at the junction of the routes 54 and 51. Both the Szent László (St. Ladislaus) bridge in Szekszárd and the Türr István bridge in Baja are located 15 km far from the village. The village is famous of its wine-cellars and wines.
Formerly the whole village was located in the area of Ósükösd near to the Danube, however in the 19th century the archbishop of Kalocsa had the inhabitants moved to the high bank, who wanted to leave the marshland. The present village was established in this way beneath the Way of the Cross and the public house, mentioned as Three Crosses (Háromkereszt). Sükösd is a famous shrine. In the Szent Anna (St. Ann) chapel, which is located at the border of the settlement, the saint’s day is held on the first Sunday following 26 July, which attracts many tourists and pilgrims year after year. On the two days prior to the saint’s day mass, stage programs, coach-driving race and the exhibitions of the community centre are waiting for the visitors within the frame of the St. Ann Days. Car drivers have to turn from the route 51 crossing the settlement in the direction of the chapel, which may be approached on cart-road.
The settlement is a part of the famous wine-growing region Hajós-Baja, its wines gain more and more recognition abroad as well as home. We can taste them on the vintage procession of the village. The hunting party of Sükösd offers hunting possibilities all the year. Wild pig, deer and stag are mostly shot. People, who like angling, find here lakes rich in fish [Viktória lakes, Tőzegtavak (Turf lakes)], where competitions are organized, as well. The trace of the Blue Tour of Alföld (Alföldi Kéktúra) leads through Ósükösd, where guest house and stamping place wait for the hikers. Travellers may have a rest in the pension and restaurant of the village.
