Őcsény

Őcsény is situated in Tolna County, between Szekszárd and Decs. By car it is accessible on Highway M6, by turning off at the Szekszárd-kelet (Szekszárd East) or Szekszárd-dél (Szekszárd South) pypasses. It has railway connection through the Bátaszék-Sárbogárd line, with a railway station in the settlement. The village is connected to the neighbouring settlement by the long-distance buses of Gemenc Volán.

As the other settlements of the Sárköz region, Őcsény also has very rich fok traditions. There are still women in the village who work as weavers, embroiderers, lace-makers, or doll-makers. The works of folk artists can be seen under the address Fő utca 4, in Gránátalma Hagyományőrző Galéria (Gránátalma Gallery of Folk Traditions). With an appointment being made the collection of the  Tájház (Village Museum) of tools  used for grape-growing, wine-making and land cultivation can also be seen. At request folk dress, folk arts and folk dance shows can also be made.

The series of events organized by the settlements of the Sárköz region to present the folk traditions of the area has programs in Őcsény, as well, such as, for example, begirding the Népművészetek Emlékfája (Memorial Tree of Fok Arts), festive church service, exhibition in the Közösségi Ház (Community Centre). If you pass by, you should see the reformed church in baroque style built in 1782, the catholic church and the statue of Árpád on Hősök tere (Heroes’ Square).  If you want some exercise, you should visit the riding farm where beginners are also welcome. By hired horses or carriages you can go to the nearby Gemenc Woods, the Fish-pond of Szálka, or the wine cellars of Sióagárd-Leányvár.

The grass-covered landing-strip hosts domestic and international meetings of the lovers of aviation (e.g., hot air ballooning, gliding, hang gliding and motor gliding), and parachute jumping competitions. The most prominent events of the village are Mayday, the Aviation Day of Őcsény, the International Motor Gliding and Hang Gliding Meeting, the International Hot Air Ballooning Meeting and Airplane Modelling Championship. Almost all these can be tried on the airport, where there is a restaurant and a hotel as well.
