Ordas is a small village with a population of altogether 500 people in Bács-Kiskun County, 15 km northwards of Kalocsa. By car it is the best accessible from the direction of Dunapataj: the nearest railway station is also in this settlement, that is, at a distance of 3 km from Ordas. By the ferry connecting Géderlak and Paks the Transdanubia is also easy to access.
The biggest place of interest and also the symbol of the village is the Rákóczi-tree nearby the cemetery. According to the legend, in 1704, when he put up his camp with his army in Ordas, Rákóczi Ferenc II rested under this oak-tree, which is more than 350 years old by now. The only monument of art in the settlement is the beautiful Reformed Church with Transylvanian motives, and precious woodcarvings. At the entrance there is a memorial table with a roll of honour for those sons of the village who died in World Wars 1 and 2. In the renovated cultural centre there is an E-Hungary point (public internet access).
Those, who want to make an excursion can walk down to the washland of Danube and the bank of the river. There are benches and places for laying fire to grill. Those who arrive by tour boat find sections of the bank, where they can come to anchor. There is also a harbour for boats carrying passengers where almost all foreign floatels make a stop. The most important event at Ordas is the Village Day that attracts all and more visitors year by year. One can see craftsmen’s while making their products, take part in the cooking competition, enjoy the folk dance and horse shows, or try his or her luck and skills in the angling completion. The Village Day is organized in the end of August or the beginning of September each year. The exhibitions of the Ordas Art Camp and the Summer Music Nights are held at the Museum of Monuments of Village Architecture of Ordas.
