Nagymaros lays on the left side of the Danube, at the foot of Börzsöny Hill. It is accessible by Road 12- and the Budapest-Szob-Párkány (Sturovo) railway line which has two stations in the town.  From Visegrád, a historical town on the opposite side of the Danube one can come by ferry, as well. In the summer, in addition to Vác, Visegrád, Komárom and Esztergom the  cruisers from Budapest to the Danube Bend stop here too. On Sólyom Island, in the outer administrative area of the settlement there is a public yacht harbour.  From the  promenade on the bank of Danube one can enjoy a breath-taking view of the Castle Hill of Visegrád on the other side.  If you like, you can wonder the beautiful panorama from the restaurants, pubs and cafes alongside the bank.

The town is a favourite target of the excursions of hikers: there are several  touring routes in the neighbouring  mountains and valleys, among them the National Blue Tour Route. One of the most popular targets of the hiking excursions in the neighbourhood is Julianus Look-Out  on Hegyestető (482 m) and the Remete-barlang (Hermits’ Caves) on Szent-Mihály hegy (Saint Michael Hill). These caves are partly the products of the forces of nature partly of human intervention. Until the Turks appeared, hermits were living here. Wondering around on the tour route in the woods you can find several points from where you can enjoy spectacular view of the slopes of the Börzsöny and Pilis Mountains. Bikers also have several  mountain tour routes that pass Nagymaros. From Dunakeszi there is a 35 km long built bike road to Nagymaros.

One of the oldest building in the town is the Roman Catholic church  built in the 14th century. The church, rebuilt several times, is the only medieval clerical monument of the Danube Bend that has remained undamaged. You can also see the statues of Szent István (Saint Seven) and Queen Gizella in the tiny square close to the church. The famous Africa-explorer – hunter,  KITTENBERGER Kálmán. died here in 1958.  It is in his memory that the hunters’ societies from the neighbouring settlements organize the Kittenberger Kálmán Days of Hunting and Environmental  Protection in the first half of June every year. The settlement hosts several cultural, pop and rock and sports  events. The most outstanding of these is the Dunakanyar Művészeti Hetek (Dunakanyar Week of Arts) in the framework of which high-level musical performances ,fine arts programs and theatrical events wait the public.
