This settlement, which is more than 900 years old, is situated right on the bank of the Old Dabune. It is northwards of Győr, at a distance of 12 km, from where one can access it by car by road No. 14, by turning off at Vámosszabadi. From the county seat there are bus lines to Nagybajcs. In the middle age, Nagybajcs was a tiny fishing hamlet, which can still be seen from its narrow streets and squares. Its population was busy in fishing and gold washing and later in animal breeding, rushwork and wicker work. In the 19th century, there were 32 water-mills operating in the settlement. It took 14 years to complete its Catholic church of baroque style: finally it was in 1873, that the church dedicated to Saint George was consecrated. In the church, there is a very precious Pieta statue from the 16th century.
Alongside Petőfi Sándor utca, the main street of the village, angling lakes await the guests, with angling stages and covered shelters. On the banks there are playgrounds, sports grounds, and a csárda (traditional country tavern). The section of the Danube belonging to the village, with small islands and shallows, beautiful all the year round, should not be missed, either. The village is ideal for biking tours, too.
