Makád is the most southern settlement on the Csepel Island. By car it is accessible from the M0-ring by turning off at either Csepel or Szigetszentmiklós: it is situated at a distance of 35 km from the latter. If you want to go on long-distance road 6, then you should take the ferry at Adony, if on road No. 51, then you are to cross the Danube by the Ráckeve Bridge. From the capital you can go by the suburban train (HÉV) to Ráckeve, and from there by a scheduled bus line to Makád.
Some time the neighbourhood of the village and the entire Csepel Island was very rich in game, therefore, in the middle ages, it was the hunting place of the Hungarian kings and peers. In the woods and reeds on the food plains in the region of Makád you can meet deer, rabbits and a great number of various kinds of birds, but if you are lucky, even red deer and wild hogs. The settlement has its own hunting association, and its members are happy to host hunting guests.
In addition to the river, there is an excellent opportunity for angling in the Kengyeles lake and the Makád fish pond. The latter is a nature conservation area. The “Silver Beach” on the Ráckeve Danube bank is suitable for bathing too, it is a popular angling and unofficial camping place. The village have several visitors in the week-ends, who come here for excursions. When arriving to the settlement, first you will see the reformed church with towers, built in the style of the age of Louis XVI of France. Other sights are the carved old wooden headboards on tombs in the old cemetery and one for the memory of the martyrs of Arad in the new cemetery. The biggest celebration of the year is the Village Day with cooking competition, sports programs and concerts.
