Leányfalu

Leányfalu is situated nortwards of Szentendre, in between the Danube and the appendixes of the Visegrádi  Mountain The settlement located at a distance of 25 km from Budapest was declared a resort still in 1936, and it became an independent village in 1949.  It can be accessed by car on long-distance road 11. It is connected to Pócsmegyer, a village on the Szentendre Island by ferry boat. A biking route parallel with the Danube passes the village and there are two hiking routes leading to the neighbouring mountains.

The oldest monument of Leányfalu is a Roman watchtower built in the 4^th century. The tower made of basalt and timber was destroyed in the 5^th century: its reconstructed remains are shown in the centre of the village. The finds of the  archeological exploration completed in 1912 are displayed in the Ferenczy Károly Museum of Szentendre and the Hungarian National Museum.

The middle classes of Budapest explored the settlement which then yet belonged to Pócsmegyer in the second half of the 19^th century. Actors, writers and singers came to live here. In the beginning of the 20^th century a second  immigration wave took place. People started to buy plots to build week-end houses where they have spent the summers and then, many of them settled finally. The most famous of the artists who decided to live here was  MÓRICZ Zsigmond, one of the most prominent Hungarian prosaists. He built a house in the village in 1912, and settled here finally in 1936. He wrote most of his works here, and he hosted the most outstanding representatives of Hungarian literature here. Besides the permanent exhibition of the famous author the Local Museum wearing his name (Móricz Helytörténeti Múzeum) organizes various temporary exhibitions by which other authors, artists, etc. having affiliation to the village are introduced.

The thermal bath of the village is situated between road 11- (Móricz Zsigmond street) and River Danube The indoors and open-air hot water basins of the Leányfürdő thermal bath are open all year round. The beach with the swimming pool is closed from October until May. The thermal bath offers a series of wellness treatments, and on Friday and Saturday evenings the guests can have night bathing with music. During the summer, guests  can take part in various sports programs. The Danube bank of Leányfalu waits those who want to rest or exercise water sports offering them beautiful environmental surroundings.
