Lábatlan is situated in Komárom-Esztergom County, at the edge of the Nyugat-Gerecse (Western-Gerecse) Mountain. By car it is accessible on long-distance road No. 10, and being on the Esztergom-Almásfüzitő railway line, it has its own railway station. Lábatlan has considerable industry: there are building material and paper factories on its territory. Red marble mining in the Pisznicei Mountain started in the end of the 19th century. The marble works made in the Stonecutting Plant that had been winded up since then had been used in such famous buildings as, for example the Parliament, the Fishermen’s Bastion, or the Belvedere Palace in Vienna. At some time the settlement was famours also for its grape cultivation, but in the 19th century a vine-pest epidemics killed the vine-stock. Vine-growing and the traditional white vine making revived only at the millenary.
The Gerenday family, owner of the stonecutting factory established a botanic garden in 1890 in the town. It is on the main street of Lábatlan, and has a series of tree specialties. The Gerenday Mansion and its garden host several events such as the Summer Blues Festival, the Folk Music Meeting in August and the Prom at Pentecost. Angling and archer competitions are organized well-maintained and pleasing Danube bank from the spring until summer. The Red Tour Route leading to Magas-Gerecse(High Gerecse Mountain) starts from Piszke, the western district of the town. It is worth to visit the Reformed church of the settlement, more than 600 years old, and its Catholic church in Piszke district. For visitors there is a hotel and also a guest house in the town.
