Homorúd is situated in Baranya County, east of River Danube, nearby the Croatian frontier. By car it is accessible on long-distance road 51, by scheduled bus lines from Baja, Újmohács, Hercegszántó or Nagybaracska. The Mohács ferry is at a distance of 10 km from it. The village is surrounded by protected areas managed and supervised by the Duna-Dráva Nemzeti Park (Duna-Dráva National Park).

The settlement officially exists since 1952 only. Although there were distinct farms on the Mohács Island for long, the group of farms that served as the core of the settlement emerged only in the 1920ies. 1956 brought a big change in the life of the village: the ice flood destroyed almost every farm on the Mohács Island: one of the four buildings that survived was on the territory of Homorúd and is protected as a monument of art now. Reconstruction was made in a planned way: broad and regular streets, loosely built up internal areas were designed. The main square of the village is decorated by a carved Transylvanian gate, a monument of the Word War and reconstructed fire engines.

Lake Riha is in the north-western part of Homorúd. Some time it was a dead channel of the Danube. The most important of the peculiarities of the Nature Protection Area situated here is that little egret and night heron have their nesting colonies here, and there are a few pairs of red crested pochards, too. Thanks to its natural gifts, the village is a favourite destination of biking tours, the most popular of which starts from Mohács. After having crossed the river by the ferry one can get to Hóduna-puszta, and then, biking eastwards to the main channel of Karapancsa. On the way back the route passes  Riha Lake. The tour is 38 km, and it is on an easy-to-ride plain,  suitable for biking all around the year.
