Halásztelek is in the southern part of the Budapest agglomeration, and in the northern part of the Csepel Island. It is accessible by the M0 ring, by turning off the ring at Lakihegy, or by long-distance road 51, crossing the Ráckeve Section of Danube. The next ferry is between Tököl and Százhalombatta, at a distance of 10 km from the settlement. Halásztelek was given the rank of a town in 2008.
Halásztelek was a tiny settlement until the middle of the 20th century. During the Turkish occupation it was completely destroyed, as it changed hands many-many times. Thet Malonyay-család moved in here from the Hungarian upland. They were busy in horse breeding and built a palace in neo-baroque style in the settlement. It soon became famous for its balls. The building has been restored to its original beauty in 2005, and is the venue of weddings, conferences and various cultural events since then. In the 1920 the Malonyay family broke, and their land was purchased by workers of the factories of Csepel, and Bulgarian families. These families still live here, that is why you can see many signs in Cyrillic letters. Horse-breeding, although not having the importance as before, still can be found in the town: the Korbuly-tanya (Korboly Farm) l offers riding possibilities, and riding tours. You can also hire a camping place and find food there. The Tököl Airport is in the outer administrative area of the town. Here you can make every extreme aviation sport, such as aerobatics, parachuting, hang gliding, etc. On the landing strip many car races, such as acceleration races and other car races take place regularly.
