Győrzámoly

The settlement is situated at a distance of 5 km north-west of Győr. It can be accessed by long-distance road No. 1 or from the direction of Highway M1. A scheduled bus line connects the village to Győr. This settlement is one of the very few in the Szigetköz region where no archeological findings have been explored as of yet. For the first time the settlement was mentioned in writing in 1271. According to certain theories its name comes from Slavic origin and means “beyond the reef”, others presume that it comes from the word “zsámoly” (footstool). The most important architectural monument of the village is its church built in baroque style and consecrated in 1779. In the middle of the 19^th century the church was destroyed by fire, but thereafter, it was rebuilt in its original form. The church and its furnishing are of the type of art monuments.

You can find in the village, right on the bank of the Moson Branch of the Danube a riding farm, where you can train yourself in several riding sports with trainer. You can go for a riding tour to the woods of the region situated on flood plains and rich in natural beauties. The riding farm has a pension for 8. In the grange at the border of the village there is an indoors go-kart stadium with a footing area of 3,600 m², the biggest of its kind in Hungary, hosting many races with mini go-karts for children, as well.  Győrzámoly has also a tennis club in the vicinity of the church, in a very nice environment. The family members not wishing to play tennis can try their skills on the mini-golf course of the tennis club.
