Gerjen lies in Tolna County, 22 km south of Paks. The settlement is connected by a ferry service with Foktő and Kalocsa located on the other side of the Danube. The village can be approached on Main Road 6 and Motorway M6, too, in case of the latter you have to turn off at Fadd-Tengelic.

As the old village of the settlement completely burned down in 1844, it was reconstructed on the bank of the Danube and its regular street structure was developed at that time. Most of the residential houses built in the second half of the 19th century enjoy local protection today. A place of worship of the Heart of Mary can be found in the village, in the Catholic church in Hunyadi utca (Hunyadi Street). The devotional sculpture representing Mary arrived from Fatima, Portugal, and was blessed by the parish priest of Fadd in 1978. Another sight of the church is its modern fresco of Mary. It is also worth taking a look at the Calvinistic church being in an excellent condition.

Gerjen can boast of several annual events.  Duna-Rock Találkozó (Danube Rock Meeting) awaits the lovers of motorcycles and rock music with different programs (beauty contest of old timer motorcycles, skills competition, procession of motorcycles) and concerts. The Lovas Nap (Horse Day) of the village held in June is maybe even more well-known. During the day visitors can see spectacular Marathon driving, dressage-driving and obstacle-driving competitions and folk equipages. The building of the Municipality also operates as an eMagyarország (eHungary) point. In summer many people visit the sandy banks of the Danube being rich in dunes.
