The city of Érd with county rights is located in the neighbourhood of Budapest, at the junction of Main Roads 6 and 7. After the change of the regime, the former recreation area has grown to be the largest settlement of the agglomeration around Budapest, as a result of which it is still mentioned as the "largest village of Central Europe". The Székesfehérvár and Pusztaszabolcs railway lines have altogether 5 stations in the settlement. Several Volán bus services run here and Motorways M7 and M6 also touch the city.

Magyar Földrajzi Múzeum (Hungarian Geographical Museum) to be found here and presenting the activity of the Hungarian geographers is of national significance. In the museum accommodated in the Wimppfen Curia we can become familiar with the material memories of travellers, e.g. Almásy László, Teleki Sámuel, Stein Aurél, Benyovszki Móric and Kőrösi Csoma Sándor. Its two permanent exhibitions are called „Hungarian travellers and geographical explorers" and "Discoverers of the Carpathian Basin and the scientific explorers of Hungary".

The minaret of the city built in the 16th century and being prominent among the other similar buildings of Hungary with its squat shape is considered to be a speciality. Next to the 23-metre-high building with a dodecagon floor-plan can be found the former war road of the Romans. Visitors can have pleasant walks in the city and its neighbourhood. It is worth visiting the highest point the settlement called Kakukk-hegy (Cokoo Hill) from where a beautiful view opens to the city. From the high banks of Érd you can see the Danube. Fundoklia-völgy (Fundoklia Valley) is the home of protected species of animals and plants and it is the world famous Hungarian finding place of the culture of the Neanderthal man.

Első Fesztivál (First Festival), having been organised twice so far, is held in Érd. Here every age group can find a program. Guests are awaited by free places of entertainment, different activities and concerts. The program called Érdi Napok (Érd Days) is organised early September and every year it begins with the traditional kilometre-long street party in Balatoni út (Balaton Road). The festival, in which the Geographical Museum is also involved, offers, among others, several classical music concerts, theatre performances and fine arts exhibitions.
