Dunasziget

Dunasziget (Danube Island) lies in upper Szigetköz, 15 km northeast from Mosonmagyaróvár. The settlement can be approached from the main road of Szigetköz, from the direction of Halászi and Dunakiliti. The village was formed after the Trianon Peace Treaty from such outer areas of the Csallóköz settlements on the opposite bank of the Danube as belong to Szigetköz. The country border drawn in 1920, Nagy-Duna (Great Danube), broke away from the Csallóköz villages their areas located in Szigetköz, as a consequence of which three new settlements formed in Hungary: Cikolasziget (Cikola Island), Sérfenyősziget (Sérfenyő Island) and Doborgasziget (Doborga Island). In 1937 Doborgasziget was attached to Sérfenyősziget, which united with Cikolasziget in 1969 under the name Dunasziget.

In Dunasziget, tourists coming here can choose from a number of relaxation possibilities. In the eco-park and country house of Pisztráng Kör Egyesület (Trout Circle Association) you can get acquainted with the values of Szigetköz. The Association awaits those interested with natural historical tours, camps, different events and exhibitions and a forest school. The lovers of horse-riding can roam the village and its neighbourhood within the framework of a guided horse-riding tour organised by Szelle Lovasudvarban (Szelle Horse-riding Yard), which undertakes the teaching of both beginner and advanced riders. In the village a free beach and cosy angling places await those wishing to bath or angle. Cottages, guest houses, boarding houses and a youth hostel provide accommodation for visitors coming for several days.
