Dunaszentbenedek

Dunaszentbenedek can be found 12 km from Kalocsa, between Géderlak and Uszód. You can reach the village from Transdanubia by the Paks-Géderlak ferry or crossing the bridge over the Danube in Szekszárd. The nearest railway stations are located in Kalocsa and Dunapataj. Long-distance bus services touch the settlement frequently.

Once Benedictines used to live in the village; they named their church after the founder of the order. The name of the settlement also originates from here. The sights of the village include the Roman Catholic and the Calvinistic church, the millennium monument and the monument of the two world wars. The most significant event of the settlement is the Village Days organised in September each year. Year by year, thousands of people participate in the rejoicing lasting for several days. In summers Calvinistic youths camp in the village.

The country house of the village has preserved the local house form and furniture in an exceptionally good condition for the after-ages. Amongst the furnishings of the peasant house there are objects only originating from the village. The house has a larder, a cellar, a shed with the adjacent stable, a well and a shady yard. Exhibitions and programs for children are regularly organised here. Benedeki Kiállítóterem (Benedict Exhibition Hall) opened in 2006 provides opportunity for painters, photographers and collectors to introduce themselves.

The bank of the Danube offers a number of possibilities for relaxation, particularly for those not despising the nomad way of life. Guests are awaited by a well-arranged free beach with a snack-counter, places for tents and showers. From the settlement footpaths lead to the neighbouring Géderlak and to the typical gallery woods and vineyards following the line of the Danube.
