Dunaszekcső lies on the right bank of River Danube, at the north-eastern border of Baranya County. It can be approached from the direction of Szekszárd, on Road 56. With the long-distance coaches passing through the village Budapest, Kecskemét, Kaposvár, Székesfehérvár, Békéscsaba, Pécs and Szeged can directly be reached. The settlement is connected with Dunafalva with a ferry service running every hour.
A significant part of Dunaszekcső lies in a hilly area. In the middle of the village of 2000 inhabitants towers a loess-hill called Várhegy (Castle Hill), on which a Roman fortress used to stand once. From the top of the hill beautiful view opens to the settlement, the Danube and Mohácsi-sziget (Mohács Island). The section of the Danube running here is part of the Duna-Dráva Nemzeti Park (Danuba-Drava National Park), in the woody territory of which tourists can meet special species of animals and plants. This land belongs to the warmest areas of the country and, accordingly, is excellently suitable for resting, vacationing and bathing. Visitors find good angling, hunting and water-sport possibilities but in the local horse-riding school horse services can also be used.
The ancient memories having turned up in Dunaszekcső, e.g. a Roman well and way-mark or the bust of Marcus Aurelius witness the late significance of the place located along the limes. Within the framework of the Lugio Days organised since 2003, visitors can view processes where participants are dressed in period costumes, different shows and ancient theatre performances. During the series of programmes organised jointly with Dunafalva the equipage of the time and even galleys can be tried. Dunaszekcsőért Alapítvány (For Dunaszekcső Foundation) holds other occasional events, programs related to the holidays of the year and heritage protection excursions in the village. The archaeological finds having turned up in the territory of the settlement can be viewed in Halász Ferenc Emlékmúzeum (Halász Ferenc Memorial Museum).
Dunaszekcső has several thousand years of traditions in the field of wine-growing and wine production. Its row of cellars dug into the loess-wall is an interesting sight of the village. Several local cellars are members of Mohács-Bóly Térségi Fehérborút Egyesület (Mohács-Bóly Regional White Wine Route Association). In the settlement many people are engaged in village tourism and operating guest houses. Eating and accommodation possibility is also offered for tourists in Aréna Kemping és Panzió (Arena Camp Site and Boarding House), to which a cosy restaurant belongs. In the restaurant you can try the speciality of the place, the donkey-stew.
