Dunaremete lies in Szigetköz on the right bank of Öreg-Duna (Old Danube), along Road 1401, between Lipót and Püski. The village is located 12 km far from Mosonmagyaróvár and 12 km from Győr. As tradition has it, a hermit or hermits used to live on the island to be found here and they took in those hiding in the neighbourhood for religious or political reasons. This was how the original settlement developed and also this is where it got its name from. Today's is only a secondary place of the settlement as the first one was completely washed away by the Danube in the 14th century.

Once a port used to operate in the settlement; now in its place a monument salutes the sailors serving on this section of the river. Not far from here a well-kept camp site awaits cycle and water tourers. Accommodation can be found in the guest-house formed in the Faluház (Village House). It is worth visiting the thermal spa in Lipót located a couple of kilometres away from Dunaremete. The village also has an angling lake, a game preserve and a restaurant. The employees of the restaurant are glad to help organise ship excursions and boat trips.
