Dunabogdány lies on the right bank of the Szentendre branch of River Danube, at the foot of Csódi-hegy (Csódi Hill). The settlement located 35 km from Budapest can be reached by car on Road 11. From Szentgyörgypuszta belonging to the village a ferry goes to Kisoroszi on Szentendrei-sziget (Szentendre Island). It is worth visiting Szent Donát kápolna (St. Donat Chapel) standing on the Calvary Hill and being under monumental protection and the 14 stations leading there. The sacral buildings of the village also include Szent Fábián kápolna (St. Fabian Chapel) and Szent Rozália kápolna (St. Rosalie Chapel) and the Catholic and Calvinist churches.

During the Turkish era the population very much abated, due to which the Zichy family settled Roman Catholic Germans in the village. Their subsistence was provided by wine-growing and fruit-farming. Although many of them had to leave their homes because of the resettlements in 1946, the German ethnic traditions are preserved even to date. The extraordinary location of the settlement started to attract the attention of the inhabitants of the capital in the 1960's. A significant resort area has developed in the hilly places by now. In the neighbourhood of the ferry port, in the valley of Szent György-patak (St. George Creek) sculptors, poets, actors and architects found their homes. Áprily Lajos, our famous Transylvanian poet, after whom the colony of artists has got its name, also used to live here. In the former cottage of Gobbi Hilda, the Kossuth Prize awarded actress, the Artists' House of Nemzeti Színház (National Theatre) operates.

There are several footpaths near to the village. The path running on the slopes of Pap-hegy (Priest Hill) and Len-hegy (Flax Hill) lead to the lookout of Nagy-Villám-hegy (Great Lightning Hill) and further on, up the Castle of Visegrád. Another path leads through Visegrádi-hegység (Visegrád Mountains) to Szentendre. Visegrád can also be reached along the marked footpath starting from Árprily-völgy (Áprily Valley) and touching the summer bobsled track, too. The local historical collection of the settlement presenting pieces of peasant furniture and clothes from the 19th century and having a rich collection of wall-hangings and pictures can be visited based on preliminary announcement. Between Dunabogdány and Tahitótfalu, along Road 11, there is a leisure park and a riding-school, where different camps for children and horse riders and also family and team building events are organised.
