The village is located in the middle of the Szigetköz region along the right bank of the River Danube; Road 1401, which serves the Szigetköz region, runs right through it. The settlement may be accessed via Motorway M1 taking the exit at Lébény and driving on towards Mosonújhely and Mecsér. Ásványráró and its vicinity have been inhabited for at least five millennia. Archaeologists have uncovered finds from the Neolithic Age, the Bronze Age, and the Iron Age; these include a Celtic urn grave and Roman coins. After the Hungarian Conquest, the local population was engaged mostly in basket weaving, navigation–and gold panning, as the sand deposited by the River Danube in the region was extremely rich in this precious metal.

The Roman Catholic church dedicated to Saint Andrew was originally built at the beginning of the 14th century at the latest. Its baptismal font also dates back to this period. Since then, the church has been rebuilt and extended several times. Additional valuable architectural monuments in the village include the 17th century church dedicated to Saint Roch and the baroque Calvary erected in 1738. Formally, the modern-day village was created in 1936 through the fusion of Ásvány and Ráró. The upper part of the coat of arms refers to Ásvány (the word itself means a dug well or a man-made channel in old Hungarian, hence the boat), while the lower part refers to Ráró, the word ráró meaning falcon in ancient Hungarian.

The islands of the River Danube, which belong to the administrative territory of the village,  form a wonderful archipelago and are in fact part of the Landscape Protection District of Szigetköz. At this point, the river branches out widely. These undisturbed meanders offer excellent touring opportunities for water sports aficionados. The bank of the River Danube at Ásványráró is complete with a camp site that may serve as a base for daytrips covering the entire Szigetköz region. The river bank also has a port for boats and smaller ships.
