Almásfüzitő

Almásfüzitő is located in the northern part of Komárom-Esztergom county, along the right bank of the River Danube, right between Komárom and Dunaalmás. It consists of two settlement parts, Almásfüzitő-felső (“Upper Almásfüzitő”) and Almásfüzitő gyártelep (“Almásfüzitő Industrial Zone”), both located along Road 1 at a distance of 2 km from one another. By rail, the village is accessible taking a train along the Budapest–Győr–Hegyeshalom or the Komárom–Esztergom line. Since the 19^th century, Almásfüzitő had formed part of Szőny; it regained its administrative independence in 1958.

Thanks to its favourable geographical location, the area has been inhabited since prehistoric times. During the Roman Era, the settlement, then called Azaum, had a defence fortress forming part of the limes. The village is first mentioned in the founding charter of the Pannonhalma Archabbey in 1001 by the name Fizeg. Since early modern times, industry has played a determining role in the life of Almásfüzitő, a fact clearly reflected in the general appearance of the village.

Almásfüzitő is an ideal destination for those in search for a relaxing environment. Rowers may take a rest at the boat house on the bank of the River Danube. Anglers find an angling lake and an angler’s lodge also offering accommodation. Sports aficionados may use the sports hall, the football and basketball courts, and the village’s internationally known pétanque field. The village house of culture is home to the Association of the Friends of Almásfüzitő and the village’s Gardening Association, which also organises winemakers’ contests.
