Mohovo is a village in Vukovar-Srijem County, half-way between Vukovar and Ilok, on the Danube river bank. Population is 303 (2001) living in 96 households.
Historical background and development
Being a part of Vukovar area, Mohovo has been populated through the period of five thousand years. The history of Mohovo is related to the history of Vukovar and Ilok. It was first mentioned as a catholic parish church from the 14th century.
Current situation (Economy, public institutions, tourism advantages, etc.)
As well as other towns in this part of the County, Mohovo suffered damages in the Homeland war. Reconstruction of infrastructure and economic improvement started after the reintegration.
Economy of Mohovo is based on agriculture and viticulture and wine growing.
Mohovo has almost all necessary community infrastructures: primary school with a gym, primary health care. It is very well connected in the traffic sense, since it is situated on the road Vukovar-Ilok.
Near Mohovo there is a fish pond suitable for fishing and recreation, hunting, fishing, driving in a boat, etc.
Tourism attractions by importance (emphasis on sports related to the river Danube; monuments, events, hiking, cycling, eco-tourism)
Good traffic connections, beautiful landscape, position on the Danube, vicinity of hunting and fishing areas present as the foundation for development of continental tourism.
Tourist attractions include two churches: a Catholic church of St. Nicholas Tavelic and Eastern Orthodox Church of Assumption (1836). As in other settlements in this area, also in Opatovac there is a memorial monument of the Homeland war.
The cycling route Danube passes through Mohovo.
There are no restaurants in Mohovo, but well-kept bank of the river Danube as well as a fish pond for fishing, take a boat ride, recreation, relaxation.
Tourism and accommodation
In Mohovo there are no registered accommodation facilities. Accommodation capacities of the towns of Vukovar and Osijek are available.
