Zlatná na Ostrove is a village in Rye Island, in southwestern Slovakia, in district of Komárno. It lies on the Danube Plain, on the left bank of the Danube, 10 km east of Komárno. The village is easily accessible from Komárno with suburban services. In the settlement is a railway station.

The village was first mentioned in 1094 as the property of  the Benedictine Abbey in Tihany. From the 13th century it belonged to the properties of the Rab and Komarno castle, from the 14th century to numerous peasant families. During the Turkish struggle it desolated, and resettlement started at the beginning of the 18th century. Locals were usually farmers, millers but they also gold- beared the sand of the Danube.

There were water mills on the Danube and the first steam driven mill called Katinka was installed here in 1921, from 1995 it is operating again. House built unburned clay bricks with saddle roofs covered with reed to be seen in the village are from the late 19th century.

A natural reservation Dropie extends into the area of the town. Notable is also the natural reservation Veľkolélsky island. Due to its remoteness the island Veľkolélsky preserved an example of the Danube countries and an example of coexistence between man and nature.

The characteristic landscape shaped island was formed by people –with livestock grazing, mowing of hay meadows, cutting willows to get fuel (this is how the characteristic head willows incurred).

Sights:

  • Protected Landscape Area – Veľkolélsky ostrov
  • The Reformed church – Neo-Classical, built in 1794
  • The Roman Catholic church of St. Stephen the King – built in 1935 on the site of an old belfry.
  • Magyary-Kossa curia – Baroque – Neo-Classical curia, built in 1769

There are pensions, restaurants, pubs and various shops in the village.
