Sap is a village in Rye Island, in southwestern Slovakia, in the district of Dunajská Streda. It lies on the Danube Plain, on the left bank of the Danube, 20 km south of Dunajská Streda and 13 km southwest of Veľký Meder at the point where the wastewater channel of the Gabčíkovo dam enters the original channel of the Danube. The village is easily accessible from Veľký Meder with suburban services. The nearest railway station is in Veľký Meder, 14 km away.
The first written reference to the village is from 1255 as Zap, when it belonged to Bratislava Castle. The owners were yeomen, first Ján from Sap, then the Dóczys and other families.
The people from Sap were farmers, and the typical craft of the village was weaving. The location of the village in close proximity of the Danube was connected a water mill, fishing and gold-washing. The village is surrounded by numerous lakes and ponds, where the storks nest on top of telegraph poles.
