Kľúčovec is a village in Rye Island, in southwestern Slovakia, in the district of Dunajská Streda. It lies on the Danube Plain, on the left bank of the Danube, 29 km south of Dunajská Streda and 8 km south of Veľký Meder. The village is easily accessible from Veľký Meder with suburban services. The nearest railway station is in Veľký Meder, 8 km away.
The village of Kľúčovec was first mentioned in historical sources in 1252. It was the settlement of the royal court chamberlains and thanks to donation of King Béla IV it became the property of the Premonstratesian monastery in Turiec. The village was in the ownership of Komárno Castle from 1268 and the Benedictine monastery in Pannonhalma owned it from the 16th century.
Population, were mostly farmers cultivating wheat. Many of them were haulers.
In the cadastre of the villages there is Číčovské backwater, a relatively large natural lake with a footprint in the shape of a horseshoe. It is also known as Lake Lion. It arose in 1899, breaking the Danube dyke. It is a small "island" of the original natural landscape of floodplain forests that was once covered with a large area around the river Danube. An extremely valuable wetland habitat and aquatic community preserved here and it’s protected as a national nature reservation.
